Site Wide Text Link Ads
Site wide text-link-ads could seriously damage your web
presence.
In the great old days, placing site-wide link ads on high ranking
websites for our clients delivered significant results.
Using the same site-wide link building strategy for web promotion today
will get you into very hot water with Google.
Site Wide Text Link Ads Google
Have you heard of the new online sport “Google Bowling”?
Basically, a “Google Bowler” uses the current loop hole in
the Google search algorithm (our view) to bowl his competitors out of
the Google search engine rankings.
How does it work? Well, rather simply, actually, way too simply.
The Google bowler will go to a few big websites (1,000 pages +) that
sell site-wide links on their site and buy link ad space, find more
site-wide link publishers, buy more site-wide links and point them (on
the same day) to the same competitor.
Result: If they strike the website will disappear out of the
ranking/search results. It has been Google Bowled!
Therefore: Buying site-wide links is a dangerous tactic as far as
Google is concerned. Beware!
Make sure that your direct-link-ad provider does not include site wide
links in their link building strategy.
Site Wide Text
Link Ads MSN
Will MSN
also penalise site wide links in the same way?
No. This begs the question ‘why not?’
Even though buying site-wide text-link-ads by the dozens would cause a
huge link popularity spike, MSN can’t do too much about the spam
that it may have detected. Why? Google has been awarded a patent that
implies in (our view) that they can’t do much about it. Even so,
getting banned in Google and overdoing it for MSN only sounds like
trouble.
Therefore: When you buy site-wide text-links, in MSN, you should be
careful!
You may get great results, but who knows for how long…
Site Wide Text Link Ads Yahoo!
Yahoo’s dilemma would be similar to MSN’s,
but we are noticing the same penalties in Yahoo! as in Google. Sites
are also getting Yahoo! Bowled.
Buying site-wide links is a dangerous tactic as far as
Yahoo! is concerned. Beware!
Results may be short lived…
The AdWords and Yahoo! Search
Conspiracy Theory
Are you asking yourself why Google and Yahoo! are so
quick to punish site wide text link ads?
We believe that their growing dependence on Pay-per-Click advertising
revenue is the key...
When companies with significant advertising budgets rank poorly in the
natural search listings they are far more likely to spend that budget
with Google and Pay-Per-Click.
Draw your own conclusions!
MSN does not have this encumbrance as they are actively throwing
massive resources into the growth of their search engine and they are
free to deliver results without a Pay Per Click agenda, let’s
face it, they don’t need the money in the short term.
Therefore: Expect penalties from Yahoo and Google when it comes to
site-wide text links, particularly if you have a commercial website.
MSN does not have this encumbrance as they are actively throwing
massive resources into the growth of their search engine and are free
to deliver results without a Pay Per Click agenda. Let’s face it,
they don’t need the money in the short term. or Lets face it,
they are not as reliant on PPC revenue in the short term.
So, MSN is more forgiving of companies who pay for site-wide
text-link-ads to boost their businesses.
The result: MSN can provide more relevant commercial searches; this is
inline with our experience.
Does site-wide link building form
part of your strategy?
What to do next:
Panic!
If you have suddenly started buying site-wide links after about
10/2005, the damage has already been done.
After carefully studying Google’s newly awarded search patent, we
believe that historical link popularity data is factored in to
calculate whether current link popularity growth trends are natural or
unnatural. Sudden link popularity spikes, up or down, will easily point
out where inbound links have been added naturally or artificially.
Don’t panic!
Yes, that’s right, breathe...
You do not want to make any sudden moves.
Removing your site-wide text-link-ads in a rush of panic is as likely
to trigger an alarm as doubling your investment in site wide links
overnight. At least you will be safer for the next major update, but if
you already had a significant web presence before you started buying
too many site-wide links, you should not make too many major changes.
Action Plan:
For Site-Wide Text Link Buyers:
1. Stop
buying site wide links.
Google bowling should not be possible, so we expect them to make some
major changes.
2. Slowly phase out site wide links out of your Backlinks portfolio.
Remember, with links, systematic and inline with your websites historic
trends is the best way forward.
3. Do not take away links without adding more.
If your link popularity drops, so will your ranking.
Be sure to build or buy more links to your site as you remove site wide
links.
4. Do not be scared off from link building and link buying.
Buying one-way direct-link-ads still is and will be one of the best off
page optimisation strategies that there has been and will be for a very
long time.
For Site-Wide Text Link Sellers:
1. Do not sell site wide links.
An easy way for Google to close the loophole would be to penalise
websites selling site wide links.
2. Get rid of your site wide links.
The sooner that you stop selling site wide links from your site, the
sooner you would be safe from possible penalties that may be
implemented.
3. Keep selling links from your site.
If selling links from your site generates important revenue, it
won’t harm your ranking if link-ads are place in a certain way.
